Presentation given at the International Society for Metal Music Studies conference in Seville, June 2025
I’m looking up all of these bands now.
Excellent! Also check out Karinding Sadulur, who I didn’t mention in this article but will likely reference in the chapter. They’re good stuff.
I just ooo-tubed Karinding Sadular. So cool.
I’m glad you liked it! In part 2 I go into detail about Karinding Attack and how they catalyzed the heavy bamboo movement. Totally unique music.
Fascinating!! Can’t wait for the second part of the journey!
Coming soon!
D this is amazing!! I did not know about this but the metal kids in Solo (Central Java) were up to similar stuff. On the edge of my seat for part 2...
Oh that's fantastic to hear! When were you in Solo? If it was a few years back it might have been at the height of Bandung's "heavy bamboo" explosion and thus influenced by it. We might need to chat about this...it really is an incredible movement!
Thanks for the restack! It’s nice to connect with a like-minded Substack :)
